The 15th of August is the most important day in the history of India. Chennai Public School celebrated this day with great zeal. The occasion was graced by Mrs. Sheela Sasikumar, as the chief guest, Master. Anirudh, a CPS Alumni as Guest of Honour, our Correspondent Mr. Dagupathi Balaji as special guest and enthusiastic parents.
The 68th Independence Day Celebrations started with the welcome address, followed by the felicitation of the Guests by our Correspondent Mr. Dagupathi Balaji. The Flag was hoisted by the Chief Guest Mrs. Sheela Sasikumar while the school choir sang ‘Thayin Manikodi Pareer and Saare Jahan se accha’. The chief guest who addressed the gathering emphasized on the sayings of Swami Vivekananda, saying that the development of nation is incomplete if the development of a student is incomplete. She also advised the students to be truthful in thoughts, words and actions. The Guest of Honour Master Anirudh stressed on the fact that the development of the nation lies in the hands of the youth.
Students then were honoured for their Academic Proficiency, Outstanding Performance in all subjects and for the 100% Attendance for the year 2013-2014.
As a part of the celebrations, the students performed a beautiful patriotic dance. Students also rendered a melodious Sanskrit song. Speeches on free India which were in both English and Hindi highlighted the developmental milestones that India has achieved and wished a bright and prosperous future for their countrymen.
The programme solemnly ended with the National Anthem.
