The Summer Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere, June 21, has been earmarked as International Yoga Day by the UN. ‘Yoga at home; yoga with family’ is the theme announced this year. In concordance with this theme, Chennai Public School, Thirumazhisai, celebrated the sixth International Yoga Day by hosting events for students, parents and teachers on a virtual platform.
The celebrations got off to a start on Saturday, June 20, with over four hundred and thirty- three students from IPP to Class 8, participating in yoga posture displays, which included specific yoga to protect students from COVID-19. This involved ‘asanas’ for the health of lungs, liver, kidney and pancreas, that included Pranayamam, Surya namaskaram, Viparita Karani, Vajrasanam and so on.
On 21 June, twenty five students displayed various yoga postures and it was heartening to see the students being joined by their parents. Eighteen students were registered for the online competition organised by the Ministry of AYUSH. Yoga competition was also held for teachers to forge a unity of body-mind-spirit.
