“To eat is a necessity, but to eat intelligently is an art”
The Farmer’s Market event was celebrated by the teachers and students of Pre-Primary department of Chennai Public School, Thirumazhisai on Thursday 3rd September 2020. To make students aware of nutrition and its importance in our lives and to curb the problem of malnutrition in society, the ” National Nutrition Week” is celebrated every year from 1st September to 7 September. Nutrition is the science or practice of consuming and utilizing foods that are important for good health and well being. It highlights the need for a balanced diet. Teachers explained the role of farmers and the nutritional facts of different varieties of vegetables. The importance of leafy vegetables and fruits in our daily diet was explained virtually through a nature walk. A high intake of pulses and cereals in our daily meals was promoted. High priority was accorded to the intake of dry fruits, which have numerous health benefits and act as an ideal substitute for high-calorie snacks. The teacher explained the importance of poultry products in regular diet by showing live chicks and poultry products. The inclusion of dairy products in our diet for healthy bones was expounded. The process of transaction on purchasing of items from the super market was also detailed. Nutrition week propagates a holistic approach towards a healthier society by highlighting one theme at a time.
