National Science Day is celebrated on 28th February to honor the great Indian Physicist and Nobel laureate, Sir. C V Raman. To commemorate this, the Department of Science, Chennai Public School, Thirumazhisai conducted CIENCIA 2021 for classes I to VIII on 1st & 2nd of March 2021.
Classes I & II, “Wacky Science Show” was held that signifies hands-on experiments. The show witnessed children coming up with wonderful science models & explanations, kindling spark of joy among the students. The judges interacted with the children and offered insights to sharpen their scientific and logical thinking.
Students of Classes III to V presented their project on global warming, the reduction of global warming due to COVID-19 was also highlighted. Three students Runit Laishram, Nekkanti Snigdha of Class V & Kaveesh V from Class IV gave innovative solutions for this global problem through models of a Smart City, an Eco village and also a machine designed to control CO2 emissions. An interactive quiz competition -“GOCONQR” was conducted where not only did the students take away nuggets of information but also experienced a fun way of learning science. Kanishka Prabhu of Class V gave a speech on sustainable Development Goals – Quality education for children and Krichnadev of Class V gave a speech on Clean Water & Sanitation which was informative and well presented. Classes VI to VIII started the program with a speech on Sir C V Raman’s contribution to the field of science presented by Aishwarya N of class 8. The highlight of the program were the videos presented by students demonstrating the different experiments done by them on various science concepts, serving as a platform for experiential learning for students.
